A unique, wooden Drueke Staunton chess set with unusually designed ‘toothy’ knights. Drueke is known to have links with Germany and I’ve seen similar knights in small German ‘Onion Crowned’ sets dated to the 1930s, which is perhaps where the inspiration for this Drueke pattern came from.
There has been no major restoration to the set, just a general cleaning which hasn’t affected the wonderful original patina in the slightest. The old, worn-down pads have been replaced with new ones and a few loose and protruding weights have been filed down and secured.
The set has been in my hands for a few years now and plays nicely on a vintage board with 1 inch squares. I would describe their condition as excellent.
