…..Because it’s a heavy beast! Almost 15 pound total weight. A very attractive set that came to us via a neighbour who brought the set to Canada when he emigrated from Yugoslavia in 1974. The bishops’ domes and royal finials have been painted and aged for clarity over the board. Felt has also been added to the bottoms of the pieces and to the base of the board. The white king’s finial was missing and has been replaced with one sculpted from glass. It is carved in an irregular fashion, mirroring the original black king’s finial – and I quite like the quirkiness of the unusual crosses!
Everything is in very good condition and the set is great for the outdoors and looks stunning when placed close to a window.
Both kings carry the hand-painted 2023 IRIDESCENT PEARL ‘Power’ signature of the artist on their bases and are accompanied by our unique ‘Certificates of Artistry’ which are posted on separately, once we tally up how many sets passed through our galleries in 2023 – “All good things…” as the old saying goes.
