If you are searching for a vintage chess set that is an original ‘one-off creation’ then you have made the right choice in visiting the Chess Schach gallery. We offer an eclectic variety of artistically restored vintage chess sets, rejuvenated and reimagined by the emerging mixed-media chess-artist, Alan Power, ranging in price from $350 to $2500 for the more intricate and collectable items.
As you browse through the gallery you will notice that each set is given a unique (and often playful) Latin moniker complete with formal details regarding individual weight, height, base-width and a brief history of the pieces. In all instances, the two opposing kings bear the artist’s hand-painted signature on their felt bases – the colour of the signature representing the body of work for each calendar year. Quite fittingly, for our opening year of 2019 we chose de regiis aurarius, or the ‘royal hues’ of iridescent gold! For our sophomore year, we continued the tradition and opted for nobilis argentum, an iridescent silver. To complete the ‘tripartite’, we’ve chosen regis brundium, an iridescent bronze, which will make subtle appearances on many of our sets listed in 2021.
For any further information, email us at thechessschach (at) gmail.com stating the name or reference code of the set that tweaks your interest and we’ll be happy to answer any further questions!
